I have had exactly the same. He called me stating he was from a debt recovery agency and if I didn't pay an outstanding invoice he would "have to" add a 50% surcharge to my "debt". Apparently I had agreed verbally to put an advert in the emergency services magazine. I asked for the invoice/ artwork and T&C's stating my cooling off period. He said they had been sent to me twice. They hadn't and the call ended. It is a SCAM! I took out an advert with Policing Portal last year and I wonder if thats where they got my details. The guy that phoned me had a Mancunian accent. Lets hope he gets a proper job and stops trying to con money out of people with a new and small business!

Rang the house landline, which went to voicemail. Before we could even think about checking for voicemail, the caller immediately rang my wife's mobile. She let it go to voicemail, at which point the same number popped up calling my mobile. I let it go to voicemail and the caller immediately tried my wife's mobile once more. No messages left anywhere, needless to day. Whoever it is has all our telephone numbers to hand, so is likely to be an organisation we have a relationship with and have given our numbers to or is the agent for such an organisation. Annoying that we don't know what organisation. Will be very angry to find out that an organisation we have given our contact details to has sold them on to some random marketing firm.

Just updated an ad on Gumtree - half an hour later I received a call regarding Motor Insurance, the man wanted to talk about my recent motor accident, they received my information from the National Accident Database - before he had chance to speak further I told him to remove my number and to never to call again. Not sure if I'll post my tele no. on Gumtree again!

I had an almost identical phonecall, they did send an e-mail. A badly written invoice with important info missing like address, clearly looked suspicious after google mapping the address on the invoice it caame up as a newsagent shop then checked landline telephone number aand came up as a bakery not even in the same road. Very odd! do not transfer any funds without consulting your bank first!! taking all documents to local trading standards at the council for further investigation.

Got a call from this # today -- didn't answer ecause I always quickly google any "unknown name" calls that I get and this one pops up on several 1-800 / who calls me / reporting scam calls pages online as being one of the Indian SCAM call centres, where they call & tell you they're from Microsoft or "YOUR internet service provider" (without naming WHO I get my internet from, LOL) that you have a virus on your computer & they will happily help you get rid of it IF you let them in the "back door" of your computer -- the they password lock the computer & you have to pay a certain amount of $$$ to unlock it again (usually it's in Visa gift cards, they've also been known to ask for Target gift cards). These are the same call centres that run the IRS/Canada Revenue money owing scams (that also ask for payment either via gift cards or e-transfers).

I use a "free" call intercept app and figure if the call is important they'll leave a message, if not I don't get bothered by it

Ditto comments about a Dyson service offer. Didn't take it up as thought it was all a bit odd. Never buy from unsolicited calls!

Same experience as above. Indian-sounding guy stated telling me he was from the Windows technical department so I cut in and mimicked what he was about to say ... problems with my computer, internet hacked etc. Phone went dead. Next time there will be a blast from my old police whistle which should give him ringing in his ear for a day or two.

My wife answered call and he used our name. Stated he was calling about our computer. She passed the phone to me and, as soon as I said "Hello" the line went dead.

Somebody from somebody from the Indian Subcontinent called Robert (012245550142) and he tells you that there is a problem with your Windows PC, just tell him you use Apple and why is calling you; he will drop that call so fast, you’d think he was an FBI director with some dodgy emails.

This is a genuine number from Home Emergency Company. I deal with them as a sub contract engineer, so I can assure you that they are bona-fide and not cold callers.

Called by a female voice who introduced her company as Ace Alignment Services. Asked If I had had an accident recently. I had but my unoccupied vehicle had been struck (no injuries?) so I though I'd have a little play with them. I said Yes, I had. The phone line was then transferred to a male voice who tried to argue that, unlike what I told him, this was not a cold call and that the number had been obtained from an Accident Insurance Database. (What's that smell?) I told him that such databases are covered by the data protection act and are to assist the prevention of fraud and not available to the General Public. Unfortunately for him, he decided to try and argue his case so a polite but firm non-stop tirade of a description of cold callers who, despite claiming that they have details from an accident insurance database which is only available to govt. bodies in the field of fraud prevention they had to ask if the person that they cold-called had been involved in an accident. On saying yes, the call is put through to "you clowns" - who do not make me laugh - whose sole intention is to try and make some money pursuing claims for non-existent or extremely exaggerated injuries which in turn drives up the mandatory motor insurance policy premiums for hard working motorists........Great stuff - the call was terminated by them. They've called you, they're wasting your time so talk over them if you wish. Be as rude as you can. Polite-but-firm normally does the trick. Reports made to TPS and ICO. If enough complaints are received, ICO might be able to fine them huge amounts. That'll teach 'em.

'Phone rang at 10.35 today (23 January 2017) asking if I was the householder. After asking three times for him to identify himself, he said he was what sounded like the TPS (Telephone Preference Service). The initials that he actually used didn't sound right - think they included an 'M'. He then correctly quoted my postcode and aked me to confirm it. I replied that I didn't give out any information ove the 'phone, at which point he rang off.

just been called - similar to other comments here - supposedly into the last winning three to bag an iPhone - and the amazing opportunity to join a syndicate for euromillions. Caller was a woman, sounded south African. I used this site whilst on the phone so by the time she got around to asking for banking information ( sort code to check my location was legit!!, apparently)I was able to give her lots of false numbers. She only had a partial address but still concerning. number now blocked

01685708603 (Merthyr Tydfil) rang my mobile and explained that they were from The Vault and would like to review my Life Policies. I explained that I didn't wish to do so and that as a member of the TPS I shouldn't even be getting the call ... at which point the call ended.

Another seriously disappointed Legal & General customer here. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable, an obvious abuse and misuse of personal information we have given in the belief it would only be used in an emergency . Not happy and seriously considering cancelling with them.
